The impact of this picture is because of what it hints at rather than what it actually shows. True, center stage is a particularly delectable bare bottom, but why is its slim young owner wearing only one stocking, and what events lead to her hands being tethered to some out of sight fixture above her head? More importantly, who and what is she waiting for in this vaulted candle lit bedroom ? Will her visitor be a lover or a jailor or a mixture of both?
